■Outline an example of NGO structure or volunteer program design. Use a web, a tree, or a flow chart to show who is in charge of what and what their job title is (think of the tree we looked at in class as an example- also posted here). What do these jobs mean and why are they useful? What are the benefits and drawbacks of this kind of structure? Is this how you would structure your NGO or volunteer project? Why or why not?
Look at at least one of the cultural appropriation articles (above in a separate post). Post a comment on it on the blog under the cultural appropriation post.
Respond in a short answer (2-3 sentences) on what you think it means to say "Stereotypes Harm Dignity" in response to voluntourism. Do you think voluntourism is always bad? Why or why not?

STEREOTYPES HARM DIGNITY AND VOLUNTOURISM
ReplyDeleteI think stereotypes harm dignity has to do with voluntourism as there is people who do things because of what others will say and not by their own.
In my opinion voluntourism is bad if you are always making photos of what you are doing and posting them on the internet to show that you are doing good things for having "likes" or "fame" but if you do it by your own and because you want to do it, it's something good.
NGO STRUCTURE:
ReplyDeleteBoard of directors
1. Administration
1.1 Administration Manager
lots of office workers
1.2 Financing manager
lots of office workers
2. Communication
2.1 Public relations + office workers
2.2 Publications + "
2.3 Social Media + "
3. Programming
3.1 Projects (people who think about the projects that they are going to make for the different goals)
3.2 Training (training for field workers)
3.3 Other assistants (field workers)
I think this structure is ok because each of the parts is specialised in a function, and tha's a good way to divide the work.
STEREOTYPES HARM DIGNITY:
I think this means that when you stereotype society you assign some characteristics to people that maybe don't have them and you become disrespectful and you harm the dignity of the people.
VOLUNTIARISM
ReplyDeleteI think voluntiarism is a good thing because if you do it because you want to help other people or yo do it because it 'cleans your conscience' is good thing. But if you do it just because you want other people see that you are doing it by postin in internet or in social media is bad because you are not doing it because of you or the people you help, but for the people is seen it.
STEREOTYPES HARM DIGNTY
I think this is when you do something, like dressing up like a person that is from a place you're not from, that can be 'insulting' to the people that are from that place and they can feel bad because of it. These means that doing this things you can harm the dignity of those people.
STERYOTYPES HARM DIGNITY AND VOLUNTARISM
ReplyDeleteI believe it means that steryotypes aren´t good because they create confussion. The word steryotype for me is a mistake, as we are all different and there is no one model that we can follow. Steryotypes harm dignity because everyone is borned with dignity and by applying a "steryotype law" in which we say, for eexample: "Africa is a poor country, lets help Africa" we are making an steryotype, as no evryone is poor in Africa, and there are other places in the world that are worse. We shouldn´t follow seryotypes. Everyone is UNIQUE.
Voluntarism is perfect if you have the money to survive and the time to spend. Voluntarism helps people, and as far as I know anything that we can do to help the others, is always welcomed.
"Stereotypes Harm Dignity" and voluntarism
ReplyDeleteStereotypes can create confusion because sometimes they can be harmful for somebodye. A sterotype can sometimes including all the persons in the same condition. For example "politicians are thieves" but not all of them do. This is an stereotype.
Voluntarism is not bad. it´s very good but there is people that cannot be voluntears, but they can always help in other forms. What im trying to say is that any type of help is good when is needed.
STERIOTYPES HARM DIGNITY AND VOLUNTARISM
ReplyDeletevoluntarism: is very good and if you have the time you can do it, but what is bad is that you do voluntarism and help people in Africa (for example) and you post photos only to get more likes.
Steriotypes harm dignity :
Steriotypes are a bad thing because you can damage other people, because you include all people and not all are like that.
1. Board of Directors
ReplyDelete2. Executive director:
2.1 Administrative Manager (administration section)
2.1.1 Assistants (working on administrating and financing areas)
2.1.2 Coordinator (in charge of coordinating the different tasks and proyects)
2.2 Communicating Manager(communication section)
2.2.1 Assistants (public relations, publications and media section)
2.3 Programming Manager (programming section)
2.3.1 Assistants(controlling projects and training)
2.3.2 Field Staff
STERYOTYPES HARM DIGNITY AND VOLUNTARISM
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, stereotypes do a lot of harm to society, who, without realizing it, realize that, is the one that creates them. When we talk about dignity and its relationship with stereotypes we see that the stereotype can damage the dignity of the people who are inside. For example when we talk about helping a country, we usually say that this country is poor and needs help and the rest of the people who are not bad are affected by the stereotype of those who originally wanted to help.
Volunteering helps in many aspects but also harms in others. In one hand they are good because they help the people who need it by contributing what they can but in the other hand, the majority, creates stereotypes. In general, I believe that their help is good and they should continue to do so.
STERIOTYPES HARM DIGNITY AND VOLUNTARISM
ReplyDeleteStereotypes harm dignity has to be a lot with voluntarism.I think steryotipes aren´t good because they create a lot of confussion because they can heart people and some people don´t do things because the steryotipes.
Voluntarism is very good but is good if you do it for yourself and you have to have time and money and not doing voluntarism to make photos and then have more likes
STEREOTYPES HARM DIGNITY
ReplyDeleteStereotypes harm dignity, I think this sentence means that stereotypes make others feel bad, for example, a lot of adevrtisements say "Africa is a really poor country, there´s no food or wáter, we have to help them because they can´t help themselves", this harms dignity. Not all Africa is poor, not all the childrens in Africa are dying because of hunger. So, let´s not make stereotypes and just help each other.

ReplyDelete-5 Things You Don't Realize When You Defend Cultural Appropriation:
Not doing cultural appropriation does not mean that you can’t enjoy or sheare other cultures. You also must be careful about it because it harms and offense people people and keep in mind that you can assimilate a culture, without doing cultural appropriation. You also must take care because the same cultural thing or habit might not mean the same to you, or to another person.
-Stereotypes harm dignity:
If we stereotype a certain group of people, the people that are around us also will stereotype that certain group of people, and in the end, that certain group of people will feel bad and they will not value themselves, so their dignity is damaged and harmed.
"Stereotypes Harm Dignity"
ReplyDeleteI belive this means that stereotypes can offend people. For instance a muslim man or woman are marked as terrorists because of their race, that hurts them / annoys them , so they feel bad .
Voluntourism is bad because you are there to help not to see places or take pictures.
NGOs
There someone who is in charged of the direction/ administration
someone who is in charged of the communications ( publicitary campaings , social media) and also someone who prepares the projects and schedules meetings. Theres also people on the 'ground' looking for volunters.

"Stereotypes harm dignity" because you stop looking at a person for who they are, but for how society classifies them. Their persona stops being important when you can only see their race, gender and sexual identity, when in reality they are so much more. And they are treated differently because of their stereotypes.
ReplyDeleteVoluntourism doesn't always have to be bad (in my opinion). If you teach, or do work that requires continuity, then it's bad. But if you go to Greece and decide to dedicate two daily hours to giving out water bottles in refugee camps, maybe that's voluntourism, because you main goal was to visit Greece, but you are also helping. Considering you don't volunteer to get more attention on social media, I think that as long as you don't work in something that requires continuity, you are helping.

STERYOTYPES HARM DIGNITY AND VOLUNTARISM
ReplyDeleteI think it means that stereotypes are bad and harmful and sometimes are not true. Steryotypes harm dignity because everyone is borned with dignity and by applying a "steryotype law" in which we say, for example: "Iran needs help because their are appeals in a war" we are making an steryotype, because not all the people in the country is in a war and they are not allways in a war. We shouldn´t listen to stereotypes because we all are different and stereotypes can't change that.WE are not represented by stereotypes.
